Yup, winter keeps on giving in SW Montana. Bozeman received a fresh layer this morning - about 4" of cold smoke - on top of a solid base of styro-snow.

I was out at Hospital Hill for my first session - 15m Manta2 - a two hour light wind session, for sure. Then I visited the State land off Bozeman Trail for a 12m Manta3 session.

The latter one was with much better power (I think it's the M3, amazing kite...) Kited there 'till sunset. Both spots I was joined by another kiter, two different guys. I don't know who they were. It's great to see new faces out kiting everywhere this winter.

Full moon is here, go get it!

See ya out there,

Noah

Bighorns or Bozo this weekend?

So coverage is still good at lower elevations there? Hmmmm what to do, Bighorn coverage is good, drive times are almost equal from here.....snow is meager here so far....must go get some - chores are done(kinda)...have sled/will travel.

Who's gonna be out, where?

local kite spots

Hi from new kiter in Livingston. Appreciate your posts. Can you send me any more details about the Bozeman spots you have mentioned, ie do you need permssion for Hospital Hill, where do you park etc, is the state section off of tayebeshakup (spelling?). I'm looking for places around here, well not super close but promisiong. Got a quick session in yesterday on lake Sutherlin by white sulphur springs, and cottonwood lake near wilsall seems possible too.

Thanks for any info
Ted

Local Kite Spots

There are two access points for the Tayabeshockup Road State Land. Look at the map below to see details. Yellow areas are where we kite.

Stay off the hill by the white house west of Fort Ellis Road (pink area). The lease holder asked us not to kite there as it disturbs his horses. Also, stay out of the other pink area, again horses are pastured there.

State law requires one buy a $10 access tag to recreate on state land, separate from hunting access.

Here's a map (click to enlarge):

Hospital Hill: Don't bother kiting there. It's private and the owner will say NO!

As of right now, stick to the Shields, the coverage is good and the terrain endless.

Hey Ted, I'm in Livingston

Hey Ted,

I'm in Livingston too & looking to kite. Not a snowkiter yet, but can kiteboard and ski, so I think I'll get it dialed. Let me know if you'd like to have a local buddy. Also like to climb ice & have a somewhat flexible schedule. Definitely looking for Livingston people to hang out with.

Cheers~ Wendy
