Description:
MacDonald Pass is on hwy 12, 15mi east of Helena, MT. This spot pass is one of the windiest places I know of in Montana. Even during high pressure systems the pass gets constant thermal winds from the west/ north west.
Whats great about this spot is the access, you can either park along the plowed parking area at the top of the pass or go 1mile east down the pass to the pullout area, from there you can hike 100-200 yards up the meadow until the wind is clean, put up a kite, and ride right to the top of the pass. When your done you can either kite down or ride on your sticks right to the parking area.
One downfall of the area is that the wind can blow really hard, and it can be really gusty, you always want to have a smaller kite with you and i wouldn't bring beginners their if they want to ride. This place can be nnnarley.
